Kitchen Safety : Dermatitis

Many sectors have employees that suffer some form of skin damage. Dermatitis is caused by contact with chemicals present in  products and materials and prolonged contact with water. It can be unsightly and unpleasant and can cause the individual personal suffering.

Cut out dermatitis - it's simple. Use disposable gloves, dry your hands thoroughly and moisturise to keep your hands healthy.

If any of your staff think they are suffering from dermatitis, they should visit a doctor for advice and treatment. If you believe it has been caused or made worse by work , then this should be mentioned to the doctor and the employer informed. Employers are required by law to report a case of work-related dermatitis amongst their staff. This can be done via RIDDOR (Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 1995, which came into force on 1 April 1996)
